On Saturday we headed out to Jackson to attend the Highland Games. We were also supposed to go to a Letterboxing get together, but we got a late start that morning and missed most of it due to spending too much time at the games. It was fun though and the kids really enjoyed it. The pipers were fun to listen to. We got to visit with a few clan members and one of the older fellows there was an avid Yo-Yo-er. He is also a judged for contests. He was showing the kids some tricks and I bought them two yo-yo's to practice with. We are going to go and visit his home and his over 2,000 Yo-Yo's! Whoa! The kids got to play in a childsized brick castle tower and they made shields. J and I ate Scotch eggs (hardboiled eggs wrapped in sausage, rolled in bread crumbs and then fried-YUMMY!), we bought Scottish cookies-also YUM, and got to see all sorts of swords, jewelry, flags and other wares from the vendors.After leaving the games, we did go find a couple of letterboxes with a family we know, that we ran into while on our way out. These guys were huge! They were also quite strong. The weight the guy in the red kilt is swinging weighed 17 lbs. The hammer looking weight the guy in the blue kilt is swinging weighed 22 lbs!
This event was crazy! This huge log is stood straight up and picked up in the palms of the man. Then it's picked up and balanced until the man attempts to throw it up and try to flip it over and have it land as upright as possible. Out of all these fellows, the youngest thinest man got it up and all the way over! He was in very good shape though.
Then we watched the sheep herding demonstration. The man had 4 dogs in there all under different commands. The dogs were very intent on their job.
Of course the kids had to ride in the wagon being pulled by a team of Percherons (I was told), from the Angola Prison. They were beautiful!
