Natural History Museum...

We stopped at the Natural History Museum in Cleveland. The kids were unsure of what they were going to be seeing...they thought it would be boring, but their cousin told them that it was fun and so they believed her, lol. She wasn't lying. We discovered all sorts of things about Natives, continents, wildlife, our bodies, volcanoes, gems, glaciers, etc. There was an exhibit on earthquakes and fault lines. We got to sit and experience a small earthquake. That was interesting.

They had a sort of mini zoo there with animals from the local area.

We learned about the Native Americans this year in school. It was really neat to see many exhibits on the different tribes around the area. Tall Girl thought that keeping your horses in your hut might be fun, but it would soon be stinky, lol.

There were a number of skeletons in the museum from prehistoric animals to other native wildlife.

We found these to be just beautiful. This is from the sign underneath the exhibit:

"The stones in the case are primarily jasper and agate, two common types of quartz minerals. They were cut so that the top surface formed a convex or domelike shape in a style called cabochon. Notice the naturally occuring variety of colors of the individual stones, selected for their striking patterns or resemblance to landscapes. Until the 14th century all gems were cut as cabochons. Opaque and translucent stones are usually cut as cabachon, clear stones such as diamonds are cut as faceted gems." The kids with Little Man being goofy as always!

I found this site the other day. This is a pioneer woman, LOL! She's got a huge ranch.

Although I have a little 5 acres, I have managed to pack it full of all sorts of critters-and still keep the place looking nice and the grass managed right. Oh to have more land....one day maybe...one day...LOL.
